How To Add The Health Benefits Of American Ginseng To Your Coffee

Laurie Pagel

Everyone knows about the fantastic boost of energy and focus that coffee can provide, but too much caffeine can increase heart rate and leads to an inevitable crash. This is where American ginseng can make a difference! Just like coffee, ginseng is considered a nootropic herb meaning that it can help improve focus, attention and short term memory. When American ginseng and coffee are combined, less of each herb is needed to achieve the desired effect. Instead of multiple large cups of coffee, one cup of ginseng coffee may be able to provide the same amount of focus and energy without leading to a caffeine crash at the end of the day. In addition, American ginseng is a known adaptogen meaning it has a calming effect on the body by reducing stress cortisol.  This means American ginseng may be able to counteract some of the negative side effects of caffeine.

If you are experiencing some of the negative side effects of too much coffee, but you don't have any other way to survive the daily grind, try adding American ginseng and see how it works for you! To make ginseng coffee using whole ginseng roots or ginseng prongs, you will need a coffee grinder, but if you buy your coffee pre-ground, you can always get pre-ground ginseng powder and mix it in.

The rich, sandy soil and temperate climate of Central Wisconsin is well known for producing the world's best American ginseng.  You can purchase premium American ginseng and learn more information about our family owned Wisconsin farm on our website.

How to Brew Ginseng Coffee Using Dried Ginseng Roots or Prongs

  1. Scoop whole coffee beans into your coffee grinder.
  2. Measure about 2 grams of dried ginseng root per cup of coffee and add them to the whole coffee beans. (I recommend using ginseng prongs since they are smaller and easier to grind.  You can get them here: https://wisconsingrownginseng.com/collections/all/products/american-ginseng-root-prongs)
  3. Grind the coffee beans and ginseng roots together until the desired texture is reached.  You may have to manually stir in the ginseng prongs for a consistent grind.  Add the mixture to your coffee maker.
  4. Brew the coffee mixed with the ginseng roots just like normal coffee.
  5. Pour a cup and enjoy!  (I recommend adding honey for even better taste!)
