2021 Harvest

Here are the pictures from our 2021 harvest which took place at the beginning of October. First, the roots are dug from the ground using a special implement similar to one used to dig up potatoes.  Then, the roots are loaded by hand into a trailer.  This allows workers to inspect each root and discard roots that have any blemishes or discoloration.  This year's roots look great!  After the roots are harvested, they are thoroughly rinsed and sent into the dryer.   After 3 to 4 weeks of drying, the roots are ready to be packaged and shipped!  By the beginning...

Ginseng Berries

During the summer, the ginseng plant grows berries which start green and eventually ripen to a beautiful bright red.  During late August to early September, the ginseng berries are harvested by hand so that the seeds can be stratified over the winter for the next planting season.  American ginseng seeds require cold stratification before they are able to germinate.  Cold stratification is the process of exposing the seeds to cold and moist winter conditions.  This softens the seed coating and triggers the seed's embryo to grow.  Since ginseng seeds are typically sold after they have already been stratified, it is important...
